Peyton, CO – The Peyton School District Board of Education has selected Robert Howard as the district's next superintendent. Howard will officially begin serving in the role on July 1, succeeding Superintendent Derek Burnside.
Howard brings extensive experience in educational leadership, having served as a superintendent, principal, athletic director and assistant principal throughout Colorado, New Mexico and Texas. He currently serves as superintendent and secondary school principal for Huerfano School District RE-1, where he has led efforts to improve student attendance, strengthen academic performance, increase community involvement and enhance budget transparency.
Throughout his career, Howard has focused on building strong relationships, supporting student achievement and creating opportunities for students to succeed both in and out of the classroom. He has also led the development of new programs and initiatives designed to expand opportunities for students and connect schools more closely with their communities.
"I want to be part of something big and contribute in the most important ways," Howard said. "I am passionate about helping students succeed and working alongside educators, families and community members to create opportunities that change lives."
Howard is currently completing his Doctor of Education in Sports Management with an emphasis in Sports Psychology through the United States Sports Academy. He also holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of West Alabama and completed educational leadership coursework through New Mexico Highlands University.
Board President Katie Harms said the Board was impressed by Howard's commitment to students, collaborative leadership style and vision for the future of Peyton Schools. "Mr. Howard is a relationship-focused leader who understands the importance of strong schools and strong communities," Harms said. "We are excited to welcome him to Peyton and are equally grateful to Derek Burnside for ensuring a smooth leadership transition."
