Health Information

Immunizations - All students entering school for the first time are required to provide a copy of their immunization record to the school, or a signed exemption (per Colorado State Law). Notices of non-compliant students will be sent home every fall.  Update your child’s records immediately after getting their annual physical. (Policy JLCB)

Injuries/Emergency - Basic first aid shall be administered in the school in case of injury.  First aid is the immediate help given by the best-qualified person at hand in case of an accident or sudden illness. Make sure your emergency information is up to date with the school. Every effort will be made to contact the parent/guardian in the event of a serious injury prior to the student being transferred to the nearest medical facility as warranted by the situation.

Medications -(Policy JLCD) NO medications (prescribed or over-the-counter) will be given without written physical authorization and written parent/guardian request.  Students needing occasional medications, such as antibiotics or medicine for colds, earaches, and sore throats, are to take these medications at home if possible.  Medication that is prescribed three times a day each day can be given before students come to school, after school, and before bed.

If medication must be taken at school:

  • It must be provided in its original pharmacy-labeled container, properly labeled with the student’s name, doctor’s name, administration instructions, and dosage.  Forms for your use are located in the school office.  The medication, authorization, and request must be turned in to the office.

  • Parents are to hand-deliver the medication to the office. DO NOT send medication with your child.

  • It is the student’s responsibility to come to the office for their medication.  Please help your child remember to do so.

Illness - Please stay home if your student has the following:

  • Fever (over 100 degrees). Students can return to school if they do not have a fever in the last 24 hours without fever-reducing medication

  • Vomiting in the last 24 hours.  Seek medical attention for recent head injuries and vomiting.

  • Diarrhea in the last 24 hours - if not consistent with the person’s baseline

  • Sore throat lasting longer than 3 days, especially if associated with swollen nodes or a rash.  Students with strep throat must stay home for 24 hours after treatment has started.

  • A suspected or confirmed communicable disease, including COVID-19 and Influenza.

  • Conjunctivitis (pink eye), if accompanied with a fever

  • Head lice or scabies (when live bugs are present)

If you have questions about any of the above or symptoms/conditions not mentioned, please contact the school.  In the event that your child is ill or injured at school, it is critical that someone is available to pick them up in a timely manner to speed his/her recovery as well as ensure the health of those around him/her.  Your cooperation in keeping sick children at home will be greatly appreciated and help maintain the general health and wellness of everyone at school.  If you take your child to the doctor, please provide a doctor’s note to the front office so we can mark the absence accordingly.
