National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society

National Honor Society (NHS, grades 10-12) and National Junior Honor Society (NJHS, grades 7-9)  are organizations designed to encourage the 5 tenants of Character, Citizenship, Scholarship, Leadership and Service.  Students with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 and 1 semester attendance at Peyton will receive an application in August and January.  To achieve full membership status each student needs to complete the community service requirements: 25 hours for NHS and 15 hours for NJHS. Community service is not limited to NHS/NJHS activities.   Pins and bars are awarded at the Academic Awards each spring.

All Senior NHS members must provide documentation that they have applied for one college or trade school scholarship each month beginning in October and running through April for a total of seven (7) scholarship applications.

Mentorship – All Juniors will “adopt” a sophomore and be their mentor during the school year. All freshmen will “adopt” a 7th grader and be their mentor during the school year. This is intended to ensure success of the younger classmates and provide guidance for those new to the program.

2016 Penny and Toy Drives

During the Penny Drive, NHS and NJHS collected $80 for local families in need. The Food Pantry received 8 large black bags of toys from the Toy Drive.  They were distributed to eastern Colorado families in time for Christmas.

In 2015-2016, NHS and NJHS members donated 3,296 community service hours!
